It was lovely to see so many patrons at our concert with The Mastersingers, and what a great concert it was with both groups on top form. This began a busy period of five concerts in June and July. Our concerts at Overton and Primrose Hall saw the individual talents of the men on show as a number of them sang solos. Jane was on crutches following a minor operation which meant that Norman took the baton for the Primrose Hall concert.
We were also extremely delighted to team up with Skelmanthorpe Band in Dewsbury Minster. How many villages can boast a band and choir of such a high standard! The band are already booked for a Christmas concert with us in Skelmanthorpe in 2020 and it is hoped that we can arrange to perform with them on a more regular basis than we have in recent years.
Our final concert of the summer was a "Miners Memorial Concert" in Dewsbury Town Hall with Grimethorpe Colliery Band. This was extremely well received by a large enthusiastic audience.
On a sad note, the choir sang at the funeral of Arthur Hirst who joined the choir when Thornhill M.V.C. folded, becoming a valued, reliable member of the baritone section.
We have a full programme planned for the coming months, including our Christmas concerts. See our Events page for further details.
As always if you have family or friends who would like to become a patron or join the choir please get in touch.
