The last few months have been both varied and successful for the choir. In April we retained our Male Voice title at the Eskdale Festival, we also came 2nd in a 'high quality' class of eleven choirs in the evening, our best result to date. At Overton the various talents of our members were 'show-cased' which the packed audience fully appreciated. Next we joined with our friends from Penistone Ladies Choir at the Square Chapel in Halifax, another enjoyable concert in a new location. The 10th June saw a different venture, as we again shared a concert with Penistone Ladies, but the first half saw some members of both choirs join with other singers to perform Vivaldi's Gloria. This was a lot of hard work for our M.D. but proved to be a very rewarding experience in a packed church.
Our final concert for this season was held on the 1st July, when were guests of The Fairburn Singers at Ackworth Quaker School, in the village of High Ackworth near Pontefract. This was a new venue and concert partners, which came about after the concert last October with Castleford M.V.C. whose M.D. also conducts Fairburn Singers. The evening was a great success and hopefully may be repeated.
I mentioned in an earlier letter that our patrons' concert is on September 16th at Shelley College (High School) with Skelmanthorpe Prospect Band.
Recruitment is always an issue for the choir. If you have friends or relations who would be interested in joining us they would be very welcome. Please let us know
